Trek to Treevolution 2014

Last September 26, 2014 the AFPMBAI together with the participation of the Bureau of Fire Protection and other government organization in Davao City conducted a tree planting activity at Barangay Magsaysay, Marilog District, Davao City as part of the Treevolution 2014 campaign for Mindanao to reduce the impact of climate change and as an entry to the largest number of trees planted in an hour at the Guinness Book of Records. In response to this call in saving nature, the selected personnel of the BFP - Calinan Fire Station attended the said event in their most eager and positive way.

The Mindanawons are eying for a Guinness record on tree planting with an attempt to plant 4,636,000 trees in a total area of 9,200 hectares. This event implied the government's National Greening Program.  With the participation of Government and Non-Government Organization, the said event took place last Friday, 0430H 26 September 2014. With the assembly at AFPMBAI office at Ecoland, Davao City.  The troop of four buses rode their way to Quimasog, Marilog District, Davao City.

Start of the long walk to the planting site from Quimasog, Marilog, D.C.

The organizations were scattered to different planting sites. After registration, the participants walked seven kilometers of lumpy road for two hours before reaching the planting sites.  Others, took their vehicle to the site in order to reached the area on time even though the road was too risky. Many of the participants collapsed before reaching the planting site due to exhaustion and heat which were mostly students.

Halfway to the planting site. Though exhausted, the participants enjoyed the trek.

My walking partner, SFO2 Polison RB never felt exhaustion.

Upon reaching the site, the participants immediately planted the seedlings of Cacao,  Durian, Chestnut and Sampalok.  They were hopeful that those seedling will survived amid the crops that surrounded it and with the type of soil that held it.

The Planting Area. It's the start to plant the seedlings!

I planted the Durian seedling! Hope those seedlings will survived amid the other crops.

Durian seedling in the cornfield!

Chestnut seedling (held) was also available for planting.

This was minutes from countdown

When the participants were able to plant all the crops in the area, they chose to rest underneath the shades of the mango tree present in the neighboring farmland. the heat of the sun was so exhausting, the trees nearby helped the participants to rest even for a little while to regain energy for another two hours walk back to Brgy. Quimasog.

Enjoying the shades of the Mango Tree. It was premature but its shades protected us from the sun's heat.

Though the planting activity was exhaustive and the site was too far to the main road, the scenery and peacefulness of the area brought positive energy to the participants to eagerly plant the seedlings for the benefit of the environment specially for the Mindanao Area. Go for Greener Mindanao!
